Rhino days Rome 2016
When: 18-19th March 2016
Where: University of Arkansas Rome Center. Palazzo Taverna, Via di Monte Giordano, 36. Roma
The University of Arkansas Rome Center, in collaboration with McNeel Europe, organizes a two days workshop and conferences to present the most updated tools for architects and designers in the field of 3D digital modeling, parametric design, energy and environtment analysis, digital fabrication and BIM (VisualARQ)
Friday, 18 March from 2 pm to 7pm there will be a private workshop for the UARC students.
Satruday, 19th March, from 9.30 am to 6pm the sessions will be open to public:
The following projects showcase the work of Andrea Gavagnin, an Italian architect who virtually recreates existing buildings in collaboration with architect Cristian Boscaro.
Andrea and Cristian presented their work based on the Bibione Lighthouse project at the 11º RhinoDay in Padova last 14th November. In the presentation they showed how Rhino, VisualARQ and Arena4D helped them to improve the workflow in their projects.
The Bibione Lighhouse project was designed to test and evaluate the efficiency of VisualARQ and Arena4D.
The Arena4D plug-in was used to visualize a point cloud, obtained from a 3D scan, inside Rhino.
VisualARQ did the rest:
The contractor of the Lighthouse project comissioned the production of the project documentation drawings (4 floor plans, 4 elevations and 2 sections) from the scanned building.
Using the traditional techniques for the generation of these plan drawings (AutoCAD for the 2D drawings and the Leica Cloudworks plugin to import the point cloud from the scan), Andrea needed nearly 4-5 days to finish the work.
However, using Rhino, VisualARQ and Arena4D plug-ins, the production of these drawings was finished in just a day and a half.
In addition to saving time, Andrea highlighs other big advantages of using VisualARQ in combination with Rhino for his projects:
- The speed to model the building in 3D using VisualARQ parametric architectural objects.
- The ability to get all the required plans (sections, floor plans and elevations) from the 3D model. The plans are linked to the model and they get updated after any change. There is no need to redraw them anymore.
- The flexibility to model complex elements, which would have been taugh to handle in other software packages.
- The option to create doors and windows from 2D curves, thanks to the Opening from curves command.
The second project, a residential house, is a case study for dimensioning and 3D modeling aimed at the production of 2D documentation for further building interventions.
Andrea will keep using VisualARQ in other projects, we hope we can show them soon!

11th RhinoDay Italy
The 11th Italian User Meeting, organized by Università degli Studi di Padova - Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile, Edile e Ambientale and sponsored by ZEN's srl, has been announced and registrations are now open.
Apart from the live users' presentations, Francesc Salla (Asuni CAD) will show VisualARQ, Giulio Piacentino and Giuseppe Massoni (McNeel) will show the latest news on RhinoPython, Grasshopper and Rhino, among other things.
The participation at the Rhino Day is free. To register, write to the Eng. Vittorio Carlotto.
Program and details
When: 15-17 January 2015
Where: SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), in Savannah, Georgia. (Map)
VisualARQ will be present at the SCAD RhinoDay that will take place next 15-17 January at the SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), in Savannah, Georgia.
There will be a live demo and one day workshop to learn the complete features of VisualARQ.
The event will bring together Rhino users, professors, students and software developers who will talk about their professional fields and how they use 3-D modeling and design in real life projects... From marine design, to product and furniture developing, set designs and artful architecture. Bob McNeel (Rhino), Rick Smith (RhinoBIM), Daniel Piker (Kangaroo) will be some of the presenters.
Early-bird registration fee for all the conferences (January 16-17th) is US$100.00. This is a special price valid until December 14th [ Regular price US $145.00 ].
Both, student and faculty members will receive a Rhino 5 educational license for commercial use, that has a list price of US $195.00
VisualARQ workshop and other workshops will take place on 15th January 2015 at SCAD. The cost of each workshop is US $100.00.
